Road Accident Fund RAF South Africa Key News and Updates July 2026

The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is under intense scrutiny in July 2026. Transport Minister Barbara Creecy confirmed 37,622 claims worth R21.76 billion remain unpaid. A formal review of the RAF funding model is underway. Court action has been launched over 430 unpaid finalised claims. SCOPA laid criminal charges against former CEO Collins Letsoalo. The statutory cap for loss of income claims was increased from January 2026. The AA CEO called for the RAF to be scrapped and replaced with compulsory third-party insurance. The RAF has R500 billion in outstanding liabilities. Claimants should seek legal assistance and lodge claims within three years.
